LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished:

  • by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
  • by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
  • by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.

The library media center houses approximately 10,000 items, including books, magazines, audio and videotapes and DVD’s, and various pieces of equipment such as computers, overhead projectors, media players, and cameras.

The library media center is only as good as the support it receives from the District, the school and its patrons.  The return of materials ON TIME is crucial for supporting the curricular needs of all students.  It is important for patrons to return materials for others to access.  Waiting until the end of the year to return overdue books is not acceptable.  It becomes each patron’s responsibility to meet deadlines and, out of consideration for other users, to return materials no longer being used.

Parents are invited to visit the media center to see the day-to-day operation and to make suggestions for a stronger, more functional center.

Our goal is to provide you with a foundation for becoming a lifelong learner and a responsible citizen who supports and uses the many resources available in this community or any community where you may live. We also strive to provide you with a wide collection of books for your reading enjoyment.

Playaways Now Available
The library still has Playaway devices available for checkout. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the local Lions Club, the media center has started a collection of Playaways for our school community. Just a few of the titles we offer are:

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie

Wake by Lisa McMann

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Night by Elie Wiesel

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

A Playaway is an audio device that contains a digital audio file of a specific title. The device comes complete with batteries and headphones, if necessary. Stop in to give one a try. And, of course, you may listen to it in the library.

Get to Know your school and public library
ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR PVHS TEAMED UP WITH THE RANGEVIEW ANYTHINK LIBRARIES. Keep in mind that your Anythink Brighton public library card gives you access to thousands of books, movies, CD's, DVD's, and digital media downloads.

Take advantage of the great selection and treat yourself to a good novel or feature entertainment. You’ll find a link to the Anythink library system in the left navigation column showing the links to the main pages on the school’s web site and on the front page of the PVHS library web page. Another great feature they offer is a variety of reference materials and databases. Sign in with your library account number and put them to good use.

And don't miss the wide variety of digital book downloads. Try listening to a new author while you're taking your dog for a walk. Many classic novels are available as well as popular fiction and non-fiction for all age levels.

And here's the best part.....IT'S FREE!!!!!

Overdue Fines and "Lost Book" Fees

Attention all students:

Use this time to get your library fines and fees taken care of and any textbooks from previous semesters/years checked in and off your accounts. Remember, at this time the library's computerized tracking system does not interface with Infinite Campus, so you or your child may need to check with a library staff person to find out if a student has outstanding fines and fees on his account. You must either find and return the school’s copy of a book or pay to replace the lost book (You can also set up a payment plan). Clear up these matters now so you don't have to deal with them later.

  • Please take care of any outstanding fines and fees as soon as possible and return any overdue books.
